Assistant Director, Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, Georgia State University
Jyll Walsh (M.P.H. ’14, Dr.P.H. ’21) is the assistant director for Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, housed in the Mark Chaffin Center for Healthy Development at Georgia State University’s School of Public Health. In this role, she provides oversight of the organization’s primary prevention initiatives and serves as a subject matter expert on child abuse and neglect prevention. She also works to educate and advocate for programs and policies that strengthen families, particularly around economic justice. Previously, Walsh was an ORISE Fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities.
Spurred by the desire to help children who were having difficulty with virtual learning brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Walsh got involved with Hands On Atlanta. She became a Hands On Civic Fellow as part of a 10-month cohort working to reduce the social isolation of children in grades three through five with a Saturday morning enrichment program. She also remains involved with Georgia State as a supervisor and mentor to numerous interns from its School of Public Health and Social Work programs.
