Alumni Association Membership Transition:
Frequently Asked Questions
The Georgia State Alumni Association is moving away from a transactional, dues-based membership model to one that is based on annual philanthropic support from our Georgia State alumni and friends that we serve. The organizational structure, function, and mission of the alumni association - To engage and enrich the lives of alumni and students through lifelong relationships with Georgia State University - remains the same.
Why is the association making this change?
Moving to an inclusive, non-dues-based model allows the Georgia State Alumni Association to better serve all our graduates and friends around the world. This new model encourages all Panthers to give generously in support of their university and their Alumni Association. This move also makes association processes more efficient and reduces duplication of effort between the Alumni Association and its partners across campus. Overall, these changes will better align the Alumni Association for future growth.
Will I still be asked to pay annual Alumni Association dues?
As part of this transition, the Alumni Association will no longer operate an annual membership program. Instead, all loyal Panther alumni are encouraged to become life members. As an additional incentive to anyone joining as a life member, the Alumni Association will match the dollar amount of life memberships paid in full as a gift to the Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment. These valuable contributions help fund essential programs and student scholarships. If you choose not to upgrade, you will still maintain your annual membership status through your member card's original expiration date, including access to benefits.
When will this change take place?
The Georgia State Alumni Association formally transitioned to its new membership model on July 1, 2021.
